The Puppy Boom - A Dog is for Life, not just for Lockdown
9 November 2020 | Admin
New research by the Kennel Club has revealed that puppy sales have boomed during the Covid-19 pandemic as people turn to dogs for comfort.
The Puppy Figures
41% of those that bought a puppy during the pandemic said the main reason was to have a lockdown companion, while 38% said it was because they were at home more. Meanwhile, 27% admitted they got their puppy to help them or their family throughout the difficult lockdown period.
Registrations of new puppies jumped by 26% in the UK between the start of April and the end of June compared with the first quarter of 2020. The Kennel Club saw a 187 per cent increase in people searching for puppies compared to the same time in 2019.
The bonds of friendship and companionship offered by our pets are precious gifts with a love that is unconditional. This relationship is unparalleled but it is a two-way deal with their utmost mutual trust and faith in us to provide them with all of their needs. It is a lifetime commitment and we need to remember that, having responded in such a way to our changing circumstances, especially if they are temporary. In the event of a return to pre-covid19 normality our new companion’s needs will not change and they will remain a big part of our family.
